Don't Believe These Common Motor Oil Myths

Our service technicians at Lithia Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Roseburg in roseburg, OR are always surprised to hear the variety of myths about motor oil that many customers bring to our attention. We'd like to debunk the most common myths about motor oil to help you be a more educated automotive consumer.

It's not essential to have your oil changed every 3,000 miles, but regular oil change service is important. If you notice the color of your motor oil has turned dark, it doesn't mean that sludge has built up in your engine. The oil is actually doing its job of capturing particles before they cause a sludge buildup. And you don't need to add any additives to the oil because most major brands today already come ready mixed with the additives that improve the oil's viscosity level for improved flow during temperature extremes. All modern synthetic oils are safe to use and won't shrink seals.
