With all the hype about all-new models like the 2014 Jeep Cherokee and the 2015 Chrysler 200 over the past couple of months, there is a good chance you have heard of the optional Electronic Stop Start feature. Electronic Stop Start or ESS for short is an emission-reducing and fuel saving technology that Chrysler will soon be adding to these debut models as a standard feature in the upcoming model year.'
An ESS system is all about increasing efficiency by shutting off the engine when the car comes to a complete stop. Using a high-speed starter motor to get it running again, the ESS system pays attention to when your foot hits the gas to turn back on.
ESS will become standard in all Chrysler 200 models equipped with the 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder engines, and all Jeep Cherokee models built with the powerful 3.2-liter Pentastar V6 engines.
With all automakers taking steps to increase their overall fleet efficiency, we wouldn't be surprised to see this technology become more ubiquitous in the future.
